Root barriers or anti-root barriers are made from HDPE. This is a hard plastic that is fully recyclable and has a very long service life. Root barriers can be used in a linear fashion, for example as a root barrier between a cycle path and a verge. A root barrier should not be placed too close to a tree. Due to the smooth material, the roots continue to grow in a circular pattern within this cylinder, creating a risk of the ‘flowerpot effect’.
Root barrier for bamboo
Our HDPE root barrier is, for example, also particularly suitable for plants and grasses such as bamboo. By using our 60 cm high root barrier, you can effectively restrict these roots
As well as restricting the root growth of plants such as bamboo, there are other potential applications:
invasive grasses
tree roots
lining of, for example, wooden planters to prevent rot
as a barrier for amphibians or reptiles to protect them from traffic
Root barriers as toad screens
Protecting migrating amphibians is very important in areas with heavy traffic. You can create toad barriers easily and inexpensively by using our HDPE root barrier. As HDPE is a smooth material, it is impossible for amphibians and reptiles to climb over the toad barrier. To protect small wildlife, for example, you can combine this toad screen with wire mesh.
